A well rendered comp is the last step in receiving client approval for the finished look and feel of a website. As such, it is important for it to appear “finished.” A client should have a hard time telling the difference between the comp and the finished site. Here are some tips:
- Build the comp to scale as it will be used to derive slices for the web site
- Use a grid system to ensure that you are paying attention to alignment and consistency
- Prepare a comp for each unique page type in your site – establish consistency between them (this will make it much easier to code!). Pay attention to common column sizes and margins
- Plan all UI (User Interface) elements you will need throughout the site – buttons, bullets, scroll bars, form elements, etc
- Don’t overlook the content styling and heading hierarchy. Drop real content into the comp
- Use Layer comps in Photoshop to streamline production
